Ron was proud to have served in the British Navy after surviving five long years of German occupation of his birth island, Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. Although he never learned to swim and was deathly afraid of drowning, he continued his love of the sea by working on the lifeboat, taking tourists across to Herm on a speedboat, and repositioning crafts.
Ron was industrious, inventive, and fearless. He taught himself to paint landscapes, wrote 4 books, and so much more, but was unable to fulfill his dream of flying because of failing eyesight and was virtually blind by his death. Through it all he kept his family safe, warm, fed, and educated.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Sybil (nee Hazlegreaves) who he said was one of the women that made Britain great. Also he leaves behind his sons Edward (Ted) and wife Brenda, Robert (Rob) and wife Claudine, and Brian and wife Mercedes. Dad was an inspiration to his daughter Jacqueline (Jackie) and husband Dale Sorensen. Grampa is sadly missed by grandsons Chris Gheran (Madison Isenor) and Mike Bourgaize (Carly Banman).
