Rosalie Ann Alford

Rosalie, “Rose”, was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Delhi, Ontario. She graduated from Delhi District High (class of 1957) and went on to study General Arts at Waterloo Lutheran College. A proud and dedicated Canada Girl Guide, she achieved what was then the highest award possible, her Gold Cord, in 1956.

Though her early dream was to become a nurse, she was encouraged to work in business and took a job with the bank. She moved to Calgary in 1976 and worked with TD Bank. She worked in banking for 30 years before proudly joining the brand-new Costco team when they first opened their doors in Calgary in 1986. She was co-owner of Eye-Site Optical (1987-1989). After her retirement from Costco in 1995, she pursued her passion in antiques- thrifting, researching, selling and enjoying all things unique and old. She loved to take photographs, dance and travel. She enjoyed many cruises, trips and safaris to places far and wide. She enjoyed watching Chuckwagon races and would travel to small towns for a chance to see them up close. Rose was outgoing, friendly with an infectious laugh who made friends easily wherever she went.

She married Leslie Svindt in 1964 and had Lisa Bueckert (Trevor) and Leslie Svindt (Marie). She later divorced, re-married and is pre-deceased by her second husband Robert Alford.

Rose was beloved grandmother to Jacob (Cassidy) and Matthew Bueckert; Claire and Kyle Svindt.

Rose is predeceased by her parents Eugene and Dorothy Sztronga and by siblings Robert and Edward Sztronga as well as her aunt Ella Adams.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial tea will be held on July 19 in the afternoon at the home of Trevor and Lisa Bueckert.
