Born on October 31, 1946, in Calgary, Sharron was the eldest of three children. She cherished her early years spent with family, especially the time shared at their cabin at Ghost Lake, where many lasting memories were made.
Sharron pursued her education with dedication, earning an Arts degree from the University of Calgary before completing her law degree at the University of Alberta in 1969. She articled with McKimmie, Mathews in Calgary and was admitted to the bar in 1970. That same year, she began her lifelong partnership with her beloved husband, Bob, whom she married in May 1969.
A true pioneer, Sharron built a legal practice from her home while raising her family—balancing career and motherhood at a time when such a path was far less common. She was a trailblazing “mom-preneur,” devoted both to her profession and to her children: Vicky, Janice, and Dave.
Sharron found joy in many pursuits. She loved travel and explored much of Canada as well as destinations around the world, including Hawaii, France, England, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. At home, she expressed her creativity through cooking, writing, sewing, and a wide range of handicrafts. She was also an avid reader, with a particular fondness for science fiction, fantasy, and mystery novels.
Deeply committed to her community, Sharron gave her time and talents generously. She was involved in numerous organizations over the years, including the Rockyview Ladies Club, Springbank Arts Club, Meals on Wheels, the Calgary Writer’s Club (where she served as President), MacPhee Workshop, and Peak Fabrics. She offered comfort to individuals and families she would never meet through her burden bears, volunteering with Victoria Quilts, and lovingly knitting blankets for premature babies.
Sharron will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and vibrant spirit. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and cared for, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sharron was predeceased by her parents Edwin (Ted) and Edith Bethell; brother Michael Bethell; and son-in-law Tony Blocker. She is survived by her loving husband Robert “Bob”; her sister Susan Couchman; her children Vicky, Janice, and Dave (Tracy); and her cherished grandchildren, Paul and Mayah.
The family would like to express deepest thanks to the staff of Carewest Garrison Green, particularly the nurses and care team on the 4th floor, for their kind and compassionate care of Sharron over the past 18 months.
A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at Fosters Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
