Shayne Thomas Wanka

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shayne Thomas Wanka after a brief battle with cancer. Shayne passed away peacefully, at the age of 52, on Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Agape Hospice located in Calgary, AB. He was surrounded by his family and dearest friends.

Shayne is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Donna Wanka; 2 beautiful children Matthew and Hailey; his puppy Asher; his parents, Fred and Sandy Wanka, and Lil and Neil Rodgers. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Claire Anderson; Baba Mary Olijnyk; Grandmother Irene Dunsmere, and many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also sadly missed and loved by his Village Family. Shayne is predeceased by 2 very special people in his life, Oma and Opa Wanka.

Shayne graduated from St. Francis High School and joined the family business, led by his father and stepmom, for many years before venturing out on his own to start Calgary Contract Floors. Those who knew Shayne knew him as an amazing husband, father, son, and friend. He was always willing to help anyone at a moment’s notice and known to always make you laugh, no matter the circumstance, with his wonderful personality. The world is a little darker now that your brightness is gone. You will be forever in our hearts and memories, Love you to the Moon and Back……….

Thank You to the team at the Foothills Hospital, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the Agape Hospice for helping him through his final months and providing him with care.

As per Shayne’s final wishes he will be cremated without a service however, A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Tuesday, August 1, 2023 should you wish to attend.
