Stanley "Swede" James Becker

Swede Becker passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of age 99, after a short illness. He was born at home on the family farm in Radville, Saskatchewan on January 20th, 1927, the ninth of ten children. He married Doreen Bennett in 1950 and they had three daughters.

A skilled wood worker, he spent 50 years honing the craft of authentically and lovingly restoring antique furniture. He was truly a master at it and spent many happy decades buying, restoring, collecting and selling antiques. Swede had many devoted clients who furnished their entire houses with items purchased from him. Swede and Doreen moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1990 and continued their pursuit of finding treasures to buy and sell. They spent many happy years there and garnered many good friends.

In 2015 they moved to Calgary and continued buying and selling antiques and staying active in the market.

Swede is survived by his three daughters, Debbie Tissington (Dennis), Patsy Haakstad (Donald) and Jamie Becker. He is also survived by grandsons Jay Stojan, Tyler Stojan (Cathie), Jason Haakstad (Kieran) and granddaughter Amy Haakstad. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Connor and Cruz Stojan, Sage and Shay Haakstad and Araya Haakstad Young.

Swede is predeceased by his loving wife of 73 years, Doreen. He was the last living member of the ten children born to John and Sophia (Bender) Becker. He is predeceased by brothers Phillip (Avis), Carl (Rosie), Johnny (Ester), Ernie (Tracey), Clarence (Dorothy), George (Theresa), Norman (Viola) and sisters Irene (Cliff) and Rosella (Noel). He is also predeceased by his grandson Trevor Stojan.
