With heavy hearts we tearfully announce the passing of our brother Stanley Robert Dick, known to those who loved him as Shorty. Shorty passed away suddenly Monday, August 15, 2016 in Calgary, AB at the age of 32 years. He was born March 4, 1984 in Ladysmith, B.C.
From his first words to his first steps Shorty was a loving and feisty little boy. He was a brother to 7 siblings, an uncle to 11 nieces and nephews, a great uncle to 1, a brother-in-law to 2, a dear friend to countless people and a pet parent to his 3 dogs.
As I write this I tried to figure out how to share tales of his adventures in life and realized that there is just too many to tell and to pick just a few would be impossible. So instead I will tell you about how he loved us so much and how his loyalty was unshakeable. Although time and distance kept Shorty from us we always knew that he was just a call away. The main focus of his conversations were his nieces and nephews. Shorty was an uncle to many ranging from ages 4 to 25 years old. He was so proud of each and every one of them. He took great pride in every accomplishment they had from potty training, to their first swear word and graduations. Shorty wanted nothing more than success and happiness for each of them and would have done anything humanly possible to ensure this.
Though he was taken from us way to early at the young age of 32 years, I know he loved us all unconditionally and is watching over us. I take great comfort knowing that Shorty is in heaven with our Mother (Mary), Uncle Dougall, Papa and Granny. We couldn't ask for a more exceptional team of angels to surround us. Shorty was so full of life and anyone fortunate enough to have met him will always remember his kindness, generosity and his contagious laugh. Shorty loved his dogs immensely they were his babies. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. I know that he is at peace now, eating peanut butter and noodles and scheming some sort of prank........ um so Cindy you better watch out!!!!!
Shorty is survived by his siblings Doug (Samantha), Terri, Samantha (Jamie), Cindy (Travis), Sherri and Allan. His nieces and nephews Amber (Kris), Stephanie, Lindsey, Karly (Josh), Alisha, Sara, Dakota, Kennedy, Mailey, Danica and Owen. He is also survived by his great nephew Logan. Shorty was predeceased by his Mother (Mary), his uncle Dougall, his Papa and his Granny.
At the family’s request no formal service will be held, instead they will have a family memorial weekend to reminisce and tell stories about the brother that they loved deeply.
Thank you to everyone’s kind words, thoughts and prayers we appreciate it greatly.
