Stewart was born February 1, 1955, the first of three children to Bill and Marion Saunders. Stewart was predeceased by both his parents and his brother David.
He is survived by his soulmate Chris of 44 years. He raised two children, a son, Craig and his daughter Jolene (Adam) and was a proud Grandpa to Ellis and Aberdeen. He also leaves behind many friends near and far who will sadly miss him and his chats. The man knew how to chat…
Stewart was born in Ottawa, ON and raised in Nepean. At an early age he took the train out to BC with his siblings and his mother. It was such a memorable trip that he vowed he would come West again. In 1977 he packed everything that he owned in his white Truck and moved to Alberta; a place he called home until his death. He worked in the trucking/transport industry for over 50 years, following in his father’s footsteps, which he was very proud of. He worked at too many companies to name. In his spare time, he volunteered for the Calgary Stampede Promotions Department driving the stages to various functions. A job he really enjoyed because he could meet people.
He was a frequent outdoorsman who loved horseback riding, hiking and hunting. He leaves behind his horse Red and his cherished dog Blue. He didn’t name either of them…
He loved the western lifestyle and attended many, many rodeos in Las Vegas and Alberta. He also loved the Chuckwagon Races with family and friends.
Stewart recently went to France, Belgium, Netherlands and England with his daughter where he got to fulfill a lifelong wish of flying in a WW2 Spitfire.
Stewart also loved to travel to Ireland where he has met many friends. He never knew anyone on his first trip to the island but gathered many friends on the numerous times he went to Ireland.
Stewart did not want a funeral but was okay with a celebration of life.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to his care team, Unit 93 at the Rockyview Hospital as they showed such care and kindness in his final days. We will be forever grateful for the comfort they brought.
If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Salvation Army Calgary, a favourite charity of his.
