Susan Caroline Epton

The daughter of Fred and Alma Kell, she was born and raised in Calgary, where she also raised her family.

Sue, always easy to laugh, was a charming woman. She was a selfless person devoted to her family. Sue was born with the soul of an artist. All her life, she drew, painted, and most of all she sang. She produced the soundtrack to her own life and would go about her house and sing. She was always singing, even close to the end of her life she remembered the melodies and words to almost every song she ever knew! Her singing endeared her to her family, and in particular to her great granddaughter.

Her nieces remember her as a woman of beauty and warmth, a woman who was elegant, gracious, loving, and especially strong - as the rest of the family can attest. Sue forged a new path for other women in early 1960s Calgary as a working woman raising two small children on her own.

She first worked at the Hudson’s Bay in the late 1940s and later held various positions with the City of Calgary from 1964 until her retirement in 1990. After 1990, Sue was delighted to spend more time with her granddaughter, and their relationship became one of the closest in both their lives.

She is lovingly remembered as a most remarkable mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and auntie.

She is predeceased by her husband Richard Epton and her siblings, Kathleen (Bert Barker), and John (Joyce Kell).

Sue is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jane Duncan (Andrew Dutton); her son Jim Duncan; her granddaughter Elizabeth Diggon (Kevan Hayes); her great granddaughter Edith Hayes; and many nieces and nephews.

Sue, you will always be remembered and loved.

We wish to thank the caring staff at the Manor Village in Huntington Hills and the Peter Lougheed Centre.

In keeping with Susan’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
