Mrs. Sylvia Joan Engel

Sylvia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Dan and his wife, Betty-Lynne Engel; her brother Ed Schneider; as well as her grandchildren Joshua Engel; Dustin (Maria) Engel and their sons: John, James, Benjamin, Jacob, Matthias; Jennifer (Jeff) Huntington and their children Landen (Taylor), Emma and William; Nicole (Dan) Doussept and their children Alexandria, Hannah, and extended family, and many dear friends.

Born in Calgary, Alberta on March 6, 1936, Sylvia lived a long and meaningful life centered around the things that mattered most to her: her family, her faith, and her unwavering relationship with Jesus Christ. Her faith was not simply something she believed; it was an important part of who she was and how she lived her life.

Sylvia will be remembered for her kindness, genuine nature, warmth, and remarkable hospitality. She had a special ability to make people feel welcome, cared for, and at home. Family and friends were always important to her, and she treasured the relationships she built throughout her life.

Sylvia was a longtime member of Centre Street Church, as was her husband, Art. The church and her Christian faith were an important and enduring part of her life. She was actively involved in the church community and formed many lasting friendships there.

Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Art Engel; her daughter, Nancy; her parents, Charles and Dora Schneider; sisters, Delores (Al) Anderson, Nancy (Stan) Wright, and Marlene (Herb) Prendergast; and her great grandson Elisha Engel.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service celebrating Sylvia's life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Sylvia’s final resting place will be with her husband Art at Queen’s Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Program or Hart Ministries, both causes that reflect Sylvia's faith and her love of helping others.

Sylvia leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a legacy of faith and kindness, and countless people who were blessed to know and love her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
