I only learned of this shocking news today, and I am deeply saddened by the passing of Tim. He was one of the best managers I have ever had, and I have greatly benefited from learning from him. Recalling his epic stories surrounding his hiking adventures has always brought a smile to my face. Rest in peace, Tim.

I had the pleasure of working closely at SMART with Tim. I appreciated and respected his dedication to his work and the care he demonstrated for his fellow team members. My husband John was a colleague of Tim's at Nortel. We offer our deepest condolences and prayers to Tim's family.

Tim, our neighbour of 15 years, was always around the corner to have a chat, smile and wish us a great day; even chopped the wood for our fire pit two days before his last hike...we will miss him terribly - rest in peace Tim - your friends, Ferdinand, Doreen and Jacques Randshuizen

I had the pleasure to work with Tim for a short time at SMART, and he really was one of the good guys. I always enjoyed the time we had together, and at times would seek him out because he always had such a good energy about him. Tim was clearly very caring and compassionate about the people that meant the most to him in his life, and my heart goes out to them.

I worked with Tim at both Nortel and SMART.  It's rare to run into someone with such skill, integrity, patience and compassion for others.  Always understanding both the human and technical factors of any role.  You will be missed.  Rest peace, God Bless.

I will greatly miss Tim and am a better person having known and worked with him. He had a rigorous spirit that seemed capable of overcoming any obstacle.  He was valued and often sought source of wisdom for those around him.  My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Tim was my first manager as a software developer at Nortel.  Like many others have already written, I was influenced by his passion, integrity, humour and most of all, his deep sense of respect and caring for his coworkers and employees.  I'm sad about his loss.  I'll miss you, Tim!

It was an honor to work with Tim at SMART. We all trusted him and he always did his best to support the people around him. He was the go-to guy for many things--especially some of the things the rest of us hated doing like Sharepoint, spreadsheets, and data gathering. Tim always helped out, frequently sacrificing his own time and energy. Quietly, he was a leader and a mentor. We will miss him. My condolences to the family for such a deep loss.

 I worked with Tim at SMART for only a year but the impression he made with me will last forever. 

Without a doubt the best manager I have ever worked for. Someone with the utmost of integrity, compassion and diligence.

I miss my brother Tim more than I can express.  I feel that a light has gone out in my life.  His caring and love was quiet but powerful.  His family in Ontario are devastated at losing him in this tragic way.  We have not the heart to let our mother know that you are gone, as she is not able to comprehend this sad news.  But you will live forever in our hearts and in the mountains you loved. Shocking loss of a good man, caring about the people on his team, and colleagues at SMART.  Remembering our conversations, Tim was always engaged, focused,  passionate about the quality of his work and very passionate about the outdoors and hiking the mountain splendour.  Peace be with you.

I had the good fortune to work with Tim at Nortel and SMART.  Tim was a hard worker and always had time for chats while at work and we shared time outside of the office.  Most recently, I hiked 3 times with Tim over days leading up to this unfortunate event. Hiking was a true passion of his. Rest in Peace Tim.

It's hard to believe that Tim is no longer with us, I am happy I had the pleasure of working with him at SMART, his loss is a tragedy and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Tim worked for me while I was at Nortel and at SMART.  He was a manager who treated his staff with the greatest respect and had a work ethic that inspired others.  It is truly sad to lose him; I am sure all of us have very fond memories of the times working with him.

I admired the way he took on both personal and professional challenges; he had more than his fair share.

I had the privilege of working with Tim at SMART and owe much of my career to his patience and mentoring. Losing Tim is a tragic loss only barely lessened by knowing that he was hiking to the last. May he rest in peace!
