Vincent, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the age of 95. He was surrounded by the love of his family and the sound of his favorite music being played.
Vincent was born in “The Garden Parish of Jamaica”, Saint Ann, on May 17, 1928. His childhood was steeped in the tropical breezes, lush vegetation, and vibrant sunsets of the Jamaican landscape. Private Vincent Roe served in the British Army during World War II as a guard at an enemy internment camp.
In Kingston, Jamaica, Vincent met the love of his life, Dorothy Swaby. They were married in 1949 and embarked on a beautiful journey together, sharing dreams, with unwavering love and support. Vincent and Dorothy added several members to their family; Tony, Bruce, David, and Suzanne. In 1957, they immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to a new life in a beautiful but unfamiliar environment close to the snow-encrusted Rocky Mountains. The newest member, Patti, soon joined this now proud Canadian family. Vincent’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished his role as father to his five children and their spouses, grandfather of thirteen, and great-grandfather of eight.
Vincent will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic and love for his family. He taught us that the most important thing is following through on commitments, showing up on time consistently, and taking ownership of the important tasks at hand. His steadfast dedication to and support of family serves as a model for us all.
In accordance with Vincent’s wishes, his final journey will be one of quiet reflection with no formal service being held. Cremation is in the care of Foster’s Garden Chapel.
