Vittoria Durante

Vittoria was born on October 21, 1936, to Teresa Allevato and Giovanni Lopez, of San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy. In her childhood she worked tirelessly to help support her family.

In 1959, Vittoria immigrated to Canada to join the love of her life, Tommaso "Tom", who had settled in Calgary two years earlier. Family was the center of Vittoria’s life and the source of her greatest joy. She expressed her love through her generosity, welcoming spirit, and the countless meals she lovingly prepared for family and friends.

Vittoria enjoyed spending time with friends, especially during her Saturday outings to the mall, and she rarely missed her favourite Italian soap operas. She took great pride in her annual canning, caring for her vegetable gardens, and tending to the flowers that brightened her home.

Nothing meant more to Vittoria than bringing her family together. She treasured family dinners, Sunday picnics, camping trips in the mountains and family vacations in the Okanagan, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in showering them with love, affection, and her delicious home cooking. Vittoria’s kindness, strength, and devotion to her family leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

Vittoria is survived by her son John; daughter Dianne (Nelson); and five grandchildren, Ashley, Tom, Brittany (Mike), Corey and Stephanie (Josh). In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Vittoria was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Tommaso Durante; parents Giovanni Lopez and Teresa Allevato; sisters Antonia and Caterina Lopez; father- and mother-in-law Giovanni Durante and Rosa Olivito; her beloved daughter-in-law Virginia Greco-Durante; and numerous brothers- and sister-in-law.

A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Ascension Catholic Parish, 1100 Berkshire Blvd NW on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
