Some people find happiness in life's grand adventures. Others find it in the simple pleasures — a beautiful sunrise, a round of golf, the company of family and friends, or the peacefulness of a perfect day.
Wade had a wonderful appreciation for those simple pleasures, and a personality that was anything but ordinary.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Wade's sudden passing from a heart attack on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 66.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, on July 19, 1960, Wade was the son of Nicola La Pietra, originally from Lanciano, Italy, and Judy Louise Finkbiner, of Hanna, Alberta.
Wade is survived by his children: Brittney (Andy) and Dylan (Alyssa) and grandson Louie. His children held a special place in his heart. He was proud of them and wished them happiness and success throughout their lives.
He will be deeply missed by his stepmother, Donna La Pietra; siblings, Robert (Shelly), Laura (Phil), Sherri (Doug), Christopher (Irina), and Andrea (Robert); and his special nieces and nephews, Tate, Noah, Joseph (Meghan), Rowan (Kayle), Josh (Alex), Megan, and Cara (Matt).
Outgoing, funny, and never one to shy away from sharing his opinion, Wade brought his own unmistakable character to the people and places around him. Whether offering his thoughts on the latest game, sharing a laugh, or engaging in a spirited conversation, Wade was never short of something to say.
Sports played an important role throughout Wade's life. An active hockey and soccer player, he enjoyed the competition, camaraderie, and friendships that came with being part of a team. Golf was another of his great passions. The golf course offered him the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, challenge himself, and, of course, share a little friendly advice — whether anyone had asked for it or not!
Beyond his love of sports, Wade appreciated the simple beauty of the world around him. A clear blue sky, a peaceful landscape, a beautiful sunrise, or a star-filled night were reminders of life's everyday gifts.
Wade will be deeply missed by his many friends and loved ones. Some of his friendships spanned more than 50 years — a testament to the lasting bonds he built and the special place he held in so many people’s lives.
And whenever we find ourselves beneath a beautiful blue sky, we will think of Wade and remember his words:
"What a beautiful day."
A private family memorial reception will be held in Wade's honour at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, across from Queen's Park Cemetery.
