Wally is survived by his devoted wife Susan, her children Jennifer, Andrew (Ravi), and Kimberley (Scott), as well as his sister Isobel and brother-in-law Neil (Carol). He will be dearly missed by grandchildren: Alex, Hannah, Kashtin, Benson, and Everly.
Wally was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec to parents Philip and Armanella and spent a happy childhood in Lennoxville. He was a member of the Lennoxville Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief as his father had.
He joined the Canadian Army in March 1958 and served continuously in the Canadian Army (Militia) in the 8th Medical Company and later Canadian Forces (Land Reserve) until November 1972.
Wally was the Club Manager of the 264 Royal Canadian Legion, Calgary, Alberta for over 30 years. Never one to relax, he continued working for another 10 years after that.
He enjoyed hiking, camping, gardening, cooking and being with loved ones. With Susan, he traveled widely across Canada, often heading east, visited several US and Mexican cities, the Cook Islands, and took an unforgettable trip to Europe. Wally enjoyed nothing better than taking the RV to the mountains and was planning future trips right until the end. He maintained a wicked sense of humour throughout his life and loved a practical joke.
Wally will be especially remembered for wanting to help – anyone, anywhere any time.
A very special thank you goes out to the staff at Bethany Harvest Hills who cared for Wally with love, to the incredible doctors and nurses in the Peter Lougheed hospital emergency department and to Rev Hillary at Symons Valley United Church who walked with us through Wally’s final years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Symons Valley United Church, 38 Kincora Rise N.W., Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
If friends wish, memorial tributes may be made directly to Symons Valley United Church or the Veterans Association Food Bank.
