Born on February 16th, 1951 in Calgary, Alberta, Wanda was the daughter of Sebastian and Dorothy Ries. Wanda fell in love with Barry Thompson, whom she married on April 22nd, 1972. The couple eventually settled in the welcoming community of Wildwood where they raised three ambitious boys, Benjamin, Ryan, and Matthew and enjoyed the love of their six beautiful grandchildren.
Wanda was a talented seamstress, and her cooking skills were second to none. She was never afraid to be adventurous with her cooking, and she was always happy to share her culinary creations with others. Wanda also volunteered countless hours at her local church, school and within the community. She took great pride in raising her boys and watching them grow into the successful men they are today. Her infectious smile and kind heart will be missed by many.
Wanda is reunited with her sister, Brenda Savage (nee Ries), and her parents, Sebastian and Dorothy Ries, who predeceased her. She is survived by her loving husband Barry Thompson; her sons Benjamin (Sherry), Ryan, and Matthew (Robin); sisters Dorothy, Jeanne, Debbie, Cindy and brother Ted; and her grandchildren Natalie, Allison, Adyson, Angus, Gilbert, and Lynley.
A Prayer Service will be held in honor of Wanda on Wednesday May 10th, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL (3220 4th St NW, Calgary AB). A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday May 11th, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at ST. MICHAEL’S CATHOLIC COMMUNITY CHURCH (800 85th St SW, Calgary, AB).
