

Frank passed away peacefully at the BowView Manor Nursing Home, Calgary, on May 30, 2012. Frank was predeceased by his wife of sixty-two years, Jeannette, who passed away in May 2004. He is survived by one daughter Susan Kaufmann of Vancouver, his son Chris and wife Terry of Calgary and son David and wife Barb of Winnipeg. He will also be greatly missed by grandchildren Christa, Petra, Ian, Christopher, Jeanette, Michael, Nathan, Daniel, Becky and four great grandchildren. Frank was born November 19, 1917 in Toronto. After graduating high school he started his real estate career with Capital Trust of Toronto in 1935. He and Jeannette lived briefly in Winnipeg before moving to Calgary where they resided for the rest of their lives. Frank joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and retired with the rank of Squadron Leader in 1946. Due to outstanding service, he was presented to the Governor General, the Earl of Athlone, at Government House in 1945. Frank resumed his work in real estate in 1950 joining Lyle Brothers Real Estate in Calgary. In 1954, he became president of the Calgary Real Estate Board. In 1955 he took on the position of Manager and Secretary of the Board and chief executive under various titles until his retirement in 1987. Other professional positions included: Charter President - Board Secretaries Council of Canada; Secretary Treasurer Alberta - Real Estate Association; President - Canadian Institute of Realtors; First Honorary Life Member of the Alberta Real Estate Association; Realtor of the Year - 1985. Frank was very active in, and dedicated to, community service. He was a long time member of the Downtown Calgary Kiwanis Club and served as President in 1960; Member - City of Calgary Planning Advisory Committee; Member - City of Calgary Transit Commission; Member - Calgary Housing Commission; Member - City of Calgary Centennial Committee, Member Executive Committee - Calgary Chamber of Commerce; Secretary Treasurer - United Citizens’ Association; Director - Calgary Tourist and Convention Association; General Manager - Alberta Music Festival; Chairman - Advisory Committee of the Salvation Army; Member - Board of Trustees, Grace Hospital; Board of Governors - Mount Royal College; Chairman - Calgary Red Shield Appeal Campaign; Candidate for Mayor of Calgary - 1971. He was a founding member of the Calgary 400 Club and member of Calgary Petroleum Club. For several years Frank was the organist and served on the Vestry at Saint Gabriel’s Anglican Church. He was also a registered Anglican Lay Reader, and as such, conducted church services on First Nations Reserves near Calgary. Frank was also an accomplished public speaker and was invited to speak at several venues and events across North America. Throughout his life Frank stayed active through his love of sports and was a founding member of the Earl Grey Golf course, 20 year member of the North Hill Curling Club and long time member of the Calgary Winter Club where he and Jeannette enjoyed curling and swimming. He was also an accomplished jazz musician enjoying performing on the piano, clarinet and saxophone. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 822, 420 – 9 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0R9.
