Wynn Lautermilch of Calgary, AB (and formerly Woodrow, SK), passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the age of 87 years. Wynn was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan on January 3, 1936, to Lloyd and Susie Hiebert. She was the second oldest of 5 girls (Elsie, Wynn, Naomi, Elizabeth, and Carolyn).
Wynn grew up in Herbert, SK, both in the farming community as well as in town. She attended Reed Valley School until grade 4, after which she attended public school in the town of Herbert. At age 11, Wynn accepted Christ as her Saviour, a decision that greatly impacted her, and became the foundation on which she built her life. At the age of 13, she was baptized. She often talked about the conferences they had at the church she attended, how much she enjoyed them, and the impact they had on her life. She had a keen interest in the needs of other people, and was always eager to reach out and help as well as pray for them. Wynn had a zest for life and was very adventurous. Travelling was something she really enjoyed, and she got to see and experience many places around the globe.
It was during her later high school years that she met Gordon Lautermilch, who was attending the Herbert Bible School. After high school she attended 1 year of college at Briercrest, where she met many lifelong friends, and upon finishing her year at Briercrest she married Gordon on September 23, 1955. The following year was spent in Winnipeg, MB after which they spent a year in Calgary, AB. The next year they returned to Woodrow, SK and started their farming career. Shortly thereafter, Gordon suffered a hockey accident that greatly impacted their lives. Wynn became Gordon’s nurse and rehabilitator, the family planner and organizer for their life together until Gordon got back on his feet. Her university studies and teaching career led them to spend one winter in Regina and another in Saskatoon, as well as several at Caronport, SK. Wynn and Gordon were very involved in the MB church in Woodrow, the Gideon organization, as well as starting a coffee house outreach for the teens in the area.
Together with her husband they built and developed the family grain farm in Woodrow SK. This was the place where they laboured together and raised their 3 children; Debbie, Terri, and Daryl. Many great memories were created at their home, not only for their family, but as well for the many friends and other family members who would visit. Besides farming together with her husband Gordon, Wynn’s other career focus was in education. She started her teaching career at the Woodrow School, and decided to complete her education degree, which she received from the University of Saskatchewan. Later, she received her Master’s in Education from the University of Oregon. She had a passion for Home Economics and was very dedicated to her students and loved the interactions that she had with them. Through her career as an educator, she influenced the lives of many students and created enduring friendships that have lasted to this day.
Upon retirement Wynn and Gordon spent their winters in Calgary, but summers remained at the family farm as long as they were physically able. When Gordon’s health deteriorated, they moved to Saskatoon, SK. where Wynn once again became Gordon’s caregiver. She was extremely dedicated to her husband and became a beacon of light for him, as well as the other residents and staff at his care facilities.
Wynn is survived by her daughter Terri (Darrell) Wilson, their children Jesse (Janelle), Zane and Zadok, Mitchell (Nadine); son Daryl, her grandson Evan (Liana) Parschauer, and great granddaughter Jayla. She will be missed by her son-in-law Marv (Twyla) Parschauer, their children Brooks and Stephanie; sisters Elsie (Clancy), Naomi, and Carolyn (Harold); as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Wynn was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her daughter Debra, her parents Lloyd and Susie Hiebert, sister Elizabeth, and brother-in-law Norman.
