Mr. Young Fay Gow 敖濃輝

Fay was born August 27, 1928 in Kaiping, Guangdong China. He followed his father to Lethbridge, Alberta in the early 1950’s leaving his two children and wife Mee Kim Gow in Hong Kong to pursue a new life in Canada. The family was reunited in the late 1950’s and they began to grow their family and business ventures. They added two more sons in Lethbridge while Fay was involved in a restaurant with other business partners. Then, in nearby Taber, an opportunity arose and they relocated to own, operate and grow a restaurant business with a close friend. They prospered for many years and added a daughter thus completing their family of 5 children. Upon retirement, Fay and his wife moved to be near their grown children and have been in Calgary for 35 years.

Fay will be remembered as a generous, caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was methodical, organized, sharp-minded with the occasional story or tidbit of life. He cared about his health and successfully enjoyed a very long and healthy life. He always was grateful for time spent with family and enjoyed the many dinners, dim sum, and family celebrations including birthdays. We celebrated his 98th birthday in August. He took ambitious risks starting a new life in Canada and was the patriarch of five children, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Fay will be remembered for being a constant in the family and showing strength where needed. We will miss his ability to bring the family together, his resilience and pragmatic approach to life and the quiet constant he was for our family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses; Susan (David), Danny (Betty), and Connie (Young); daughters-in-law, Janice and Diane; fourteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Sabrina, Ted, Jennifer, Jasmine, Soleil, Sonnet, Shepherd, Brandon, Bradley, Brett, Danielle, Ben, and Lucas; and four great-grandchildren, Mei Li, Cooper, Beckett, and Ethan.

Fay was predeceased by his wife, Mee Kim and their two sons, Jerry and William.

A Visitation will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

A Funeral Service to honour Fay’s life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
