Alene Egan died peacefully October 12, 2026 at St Luke’s Place in Cambridge. Alene was born in Renfrew, Ontario to Raymond Imbleau and Inez Ryan. She was predeceased by her husband Leo (2020) and her sister Lorna Derraugh (2013). She is remembered lovingly by her brother and sister-in-law Henry and Margaret Imbleau of Ottawa, her children Mary (Paul Welsh) of Ottawa, Raymond (Rod Browning) of London, and Aline Boles (Paul) of Mississauga, grandchildren Gareth and Ryan Welsh and Sara and Lorna Boles, and many nieces and nephews.
An exemplary student, Alene entered the workforce after high school and was a valued employee of the Bank of Montreal in Renfrew and later Ontario Hydro in Cobden where she was chief clerk. In Cobden she met a young high school teacher named Leo and the two married in 1959. They moved to Preston in 1962.
Alene was employed at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for 21 years, as an executive secretary. She will be remembered for her kindness.
Education was extremely important to Alene. She instilled a love of music and a strong work ethic in her children. She also encouraged them in their faith and modeled an active engagement in the democratic process and concern for others.
Following retirement, Alene enjoyed traveling, reading, playing the piano, attending the KW Symphony and visiting family in the Ottawa Valley. Always a good cook, she became an excellent one in retirement as well as an exceptional baker. She adapted recipes for Leo that helped him recover after two serious health crises.
Over the last 10 years, Alene confronted her own serious health problems. While dealing with significant physical and cognitive challenges, she remained highly interested in the lives of everyone she met. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at St Luke’s for their outstanding compassionate and skilled care.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Clements Church (745 Duke St, Cambridge) on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery (750 Fountain St N, Cambridge).
