Predeceased by her husband, Pete Strachan (1981) and by her special companion, Douglas Stuart (2015). Dearly loved mother of Linda Desborough (Gary) and Wayne Strachan (Susan). Cherished Grandmother of Chad Desborough (Lisa), Shannon Desborough (Tania Lotzmann), Aaron Sander and Devin Sander. Proud and doting Great-Grandmother of Cole, Fynn, Nyla, William (2010), Katie, and Gemma Desborough. Dear sister to the late George Constable, Lil Pelrin and Grace Shunock , and remembered by her nieces and nephews.
Betty is also fondly remembered by Mary Stephenson, her dear friend with whom she shared laughter, adventures (and mis-adventures), and made wonderful memories.
Betty was an avid gardener, a sewer, a world traveler, a lover of curling, and story teller - she was an amazing woman who lived life with zest and passion and enthusiasm. She spent countless hours volunteering, giving her time as a Life Member of the Preston Legion Ladies’ Auxilliary and the Preston IODE, and nearly 20 years as a volunteer at Fairview Mennonite Home. She made many friends and memories and she will be missed.
Friends will be received at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, on Thursday evening (Sept. 20) from 7-9pm. A service celebrating Betty’s life will take place at the funeral home on Friday morning at 11am, with a reception to follow. Betty’s family extends their deepest thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at CMH, Floor 2B for the care and kindness Betty received during her last days.
