Clare leaves behind his daughter Shelley Apa (Tony), stepson Stephen Finch (Suzan), three grandchildren, Paula Wilson (Paul), Joel Stouffer (Angela), Scott Finch (Farrah), and three great-grandchildren, Keenan Wilson, Billie Stouffer, and Alex Finch. Predeceased by his wife Helen Jordan (nee Finch), his son Gary Jordan and his daughter Trudi Jordan.
Clare was born on September 23rd, 1928, in Indian Harbour, Guysboro County, Nova Scotia, the son of Arnold and Mildred Jordan. He had seven siblings. He joined the army and was a reservist. The second World War ended soon after that. At the age of eighteen, Clare left his home and moved to Hespeler, Ontario in search of work. He landed a job at Dominion Woolen Mills. His next job was at Royal Metal for a brief time. He moved to Preston and worked driving ambulances, taxis, and cross town buses for Kinsel's. It was during this time that he met his first wife Lorna (Watson). They were married and had three children: Gary, Shelley, and Trudi. During that time Clare took a job at Kondu Manufacturing that was later bought by Appleton Electric. He worked there until he retired at the age of 62.
Clare was an incredibly hard working man. Sometimes working his regular job and one or two part time jobs, one at Sandersons Garage, working evenings and weekends helping at a farm. Whatever he could get to make ends meet for his family. He took great pride in the projects he did at home. He dug out his basement with a shovel and conveyor belt. A summer project when he and his son Gary mixed and poured concrete slabs for his driveway. Next was building a recreation room. The list could go on and on. He was a very handy man and he would always lend a hand to anyone who was needing help.
Time passed and life happened and Clare entered into a second marriage to Helen (Finch). This was a great time as Clare was on his way to retirement and what would end up being a new passion for him. He entered into the sulky harness racing and the love of the horses and training them brought him so much joy and pride. This was what he would continue to enjoy for many years.
Clare was a proud man with the kindest heart. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all his heart. If he liked someone, they knew it, and he was a very loyal friend. He didn't want much from life and material things were not something he sought. He knew many people by name as he spent his adult life in the town of Preston. The last five years of his life brought him some challenges. He had never backed away from a challenge, so when his memory started to fade he still was happy to tell you about his life as he remembered it. Those stories were told with great pride and a big smile on his dimpled face. He was living in Guelph at Riverside Glen Long Term Care at the time of his passing. He was treated with the most amazing, kind, and loving care. He was made part of the Riverside Glen "family", and from all accounts was a much loved resident. "Dimples" was a fond nickname given by some of the staff.
There is no doubt that Clare's life was a life well lived, and to the fullest.
