Douglas Murray Leighton

Leighton, Douglas Murray - We sadly announce the passing of Douglas Murray Leighton on November 2, 2014 at the age of 63. Loving father of Carolyn Leighton-Hilborn (Kyle Hilborn) and Scott (Kevin Holditch). Adored Abuelo of Camden, Cael and Cian Hilborn. Douglas also leaves behind his brothers William (Margaret), David (Gord) and Paul (Sharon) as well as many cherished family members, dear friends, special life time friends Mary Jane Leighton and Sheila Leighton and brother-in-law Tom Goheen. Predeceased by Parents Joseph and Edna and his sister Susan Goheen. Douglas Murray was born in Barrie, Ontario and was the third of five children. He attended Conestoga College, where he completed his diploma in photography in the early 1970s. He went on to start and run a successful photography business, The Leighton Image, in Brampton, Ontario, until his retirement, when he moved to the Hamilton area. Douglas was a proud member of the Brampton Rotary Club and enjoyed helping with the development of new programs in the Brampton area. While active with Rotary he enjoyed taking several trips to Tanzania, Africa to assist with the Health, Hunger and Humanity Project. He received the Paul Harris Fellow award in recognition of his contribution to Rotary International. During his retirement he enjoyed spending more time with his family, gardening, wine making and travel to his favourite place, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he learned to speak fluent Spanish. Douglas was a passionate and energetic man and he lived his life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Glen (Rotary Glen), 1857 Queen St W, Brampton, ON L6Y 0B6 on Monday, November 10th, 2014 from 1:30 to 5pm.
