He was resting peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and was blessed, during these difficult and unique Covid times, to have had two of his sisters in law, Bonnie and Linda, by his side when he passed. He had only just seconds before, heard the loving voice of his wife Sharon sending him off to be with his Lord. Beloved husband and best friend of Sharon (nee Zieman) for 41 years, Ed was the proudest father of their son Michael. He was a kind and gentle man with the patience of Job. While Ed was still able, he and Sharon and their beloved Michael would take day trips all over Southern Ontario and he enjoyed so much time showing his family our beautiful countryside. He didn't need to go far to find what he loved. They sat beside him.
Ed had a great sense of humor and a special way of making you believe that you were his favorite. His fondness for animals was clear as well. He enjoyed taking care of his Koi pond and loved when his in laws would vacation and he was able to "babysit" their pets. Those pets will miss Ed too.
In these past few years as well, Uncle Ed enjoyed a special bond with his nephew Kevin. They loved watching and laughing at their numerous favorites on TV. We'll not be able to look at 'Baywatch', 'Touched by an Angel' or 'Hot Bench' again without thinking of the two of them sitting in the living room and sharing jokes too that sometimes only they understood. (Yes, these shows ARE still on)
Ed retired after many years in the Pipe Assembly and Testing Department of Cambridge Brass. He and his wife Sharon enjoyed the many Christmas parties they were able to attend year after year and the comradeship of his former workmates.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his in laws, Terry and Bev Zieman, Karen and Walt Bartlett, Bonnie and Frank George, Linda and Jim Green, Elaine and Randy King and Eleanor and George Cherry. As well, a few special friends and neighbours too, Kris and Joyce, Maureen and Brian, and Wayne and Lori. Ed has many nieces and nephews that will miss his calm demeanor and quick wit.
Ed is predeceased by his parents James and Clara Memmott, his brother Robert Memmott and sister in law Sheila Sheppard.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Golden Years and Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Barthel Funeral Home (519) 653-3251.
As an expression of sympathy, do something kind for a person or a pet and think of Ed.
