It is with a deep heaviness and great sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Therese Murphy (Cassidy) on Friday, June 19th, 2026, at the age of 79. She passed away very peacefully at home surrounded by love after fighting a very lengthy and difficult battle with cancer.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her children; Sheila, Therese, Richard (Sue) and Colleen (Jesse); her grandchildren Nicole (Tyler), Devin (Kayla), Victoria (Phil), Aislin, Christopher, Michael, Mackenzie, Kayden and Tanner; and her great grandchildren Jaxon, Nikana, Corvin, Ahtreyu, Reid, River and Renn. She will also be missed by her surviving siblings Richard (Marion), Mary and Joan. Eileen is preceded by her loving husband of 58 years Patrick Murphy, her parents Bill and Helen, son-in-law Kenny, and sisters Florence and Carol as well as brothers Ron and Mike.
Eileen spent her entire life taking care of and nurturing those she loved, family and friends were absolutely everything to her and everyone who came into her life was considered, and became, family. Her dedication to being the sole caregiver to her beloved Newf after his stroke is an incredible example of her strength in love and her deep faith and conviction that she was doing what was best for her husband that she adored.
To know Eileen is to know that her door was always open, a pot of coffee always on, and homemade goodies were always available in abundance. Family and friends kept her heart happy, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her young and fighting until the very end.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her sister Mary who spent many hours sitting by her side every day. To Dr MacNeil and the amazing oncology team at LHSC, Dr Sandor, Benedetta, Armanda and all the PSWs from the Ontario at Home Palliative team, and to Natasha, Christine and the Fairview Mennonite team.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lissard House.
Family and friends will be welcomed at Barthel Funeral Home in Cambridge on Friday, June 26th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 11am at St Clements RC Church on Duke St in Cambridge.
