

Ray passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, in his 90th year. A devoted husband, Ray shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Vernelle.
He will be deeply missed by his children: Jennifer Wright (predeceased by David Wright), Harriet Sheppard (Brian Sheppard), and Sylvia Wagner. Ray now joins his cherished daughter Katharine Zanette (Dino Zanette), who passed away two years ago. He was predeceased by his parents, Monica and Jack, and his sisters, Maureen Wilbur and Kate Schultz. He is survived by his sisters, Janet Urhin and Paula Donville.
Ray and Vernelle enjoyed countless cruises and explored many corners of the world together. For many years, they spent their winters in Florida, where Ray embraced the sunshine and a slower pace of life. He was also a devoted Blue Jays fan.
In his younger years, he proudly marched as a member of the renowned Scout House Band, an experience that brought him great joy and lasting friendships.
Known affectionately as “Papa” or “2Papa,” Ray was a proud and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His legacy of warmth, wisdom, and love will live on through them.
Ray was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His presence in our lives was a true blessing, and he will be remembered always for his generous spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering love for his family.
We take comfort in the many joyful memories we shared and the enduring love he gave so freely.
Ray's family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, on Thursday May 8th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm., and Friday May 9th from 9:00 to 9:45 am.,with a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Clement's Parish, 745 Duke Street at 10:00 am. Cremation will follow. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
