Mrs. Margarete Elise Kremer

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2010, in her 90th year, at Freeport Health Centre, Kitchener. Gretchen was born in Germany on January 24, 1921, and came to Canada with her family in 1956. Loving wife of the late Michael Kremer (1996), survived by her children Ingrid and Harald (Valerie), her granddaughters Sandra Christie (Rob) and Marian Kremer, and her great-grandson Cole Christie. Predeceased by her first husband Otto Schaettel, parents Lorenz and Elise Schneider (nee Neidhart), and sisters Frieda Schneider and Lina Schmidt. Gretchen was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cambridge and the Continental German-Canadian Club. Never one to fear new experiences, Gretchen embraced her life in Canada while keeping her German heritage. She enjoyed travel and especially her time at a cottage community in Muskoka, where she was everyone's Oma. Adventurous about trying new foods and recipes, Gretchen was hospitable almost to a fault: certainly no one ever left her house hungry. Visitation Thursday, August 5 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Barthel Funeral Home , 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Freeport Health Centre of the Grand River Hospital.
