Michael will be deeply missed by his beloved daughter, Sarah Uppal (Neil), who was not only his daughter but his best friend. Their bond was unbreakable, each a constant source of love and support for the other. Michael’s love for Sarah was limitless, and they faced life’s challenges side-by-side.
Michael was a proud grandfather to Sophie and Hannah, two bright lights in his life. He cherished every moment with them, from reading stories together to cuddling on the couch watching TV.
Michael is now reunited with his beloved daughter, Katie (2019), and his parents James and Joyce McGarrity, all of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his siblings Pat (Vanessa), Ted (Lillian), Joe (Karen), Anne, Catherine (Stuart), and Ellen. Michael was a cherished uncle to eight nieces and nephews, and a loving great-uncle to seven.
A kind, caring and endlessly thoughtful man, Michael always put others before himself and extended this generosity to all who knew him. Truly a “human Google”, Michael could answer any question big or small and was always eager to share his knowledge and insights with those around him. He loved reading, doing the crosswords, and learning about history.
By trade, Michael was a skilled heavy drop forger, working in the industry for almost 40 years. In addition to his craft, he was a strong and dedicated advocate for the United Steel Workers Union. His craftmanship and passion earned him respect among his peers and he took great pride in his work.
Michael’s spirit of love, humour, and wisdom will remain a guiding light for those who knew him. His memory will be carried forward in the hearts of his family, whose lives he touched so deeply.
In accordance with Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Entombment will take place at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Burlington Saturday December 20th at 10:30 am.
