It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Ouellette, our precious husband, father and grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle, on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025, at the age of 80, after a period of declining health.
Born in Altofts, Yorkshire, UK, in 1944, he immigrated to Canada with his mother at the age of two, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax aboard the Queen Mary. It was from this point on that he became a fiercely proud Canadian.
Alan was a lifelong resident of Campbellton, NB, where he married his high school sweetheart Patricia fifty-nine years ago. Together, they welcomed their two wonderful children, Marc and Andrea, whom he would have considered his greatest accomplishments. They were raised to adulthood with his unconditional love and support, and he was tremendously proud of the successful, independent people they have become. He made sure they always knew how proud he was of them, and how delighted he was with the life partners they chose, Karine and Patrick. His crowning glory was the arrival of his grandchildren, Joren and Elianne. Affectionately known as “Papa”, he doted on them, delighting in daily news or pictures of their various adventures. Recently, he was extremely happy to have spent an extended Christmas holiday with his family in Manitoba, attending Christmas concerts, Elianne’s skating show and Joren’s hockey games. They brought him so much joy, and now, a tremendous light has been extinguished from their little lives. He dedicated 40 years of service to CN, retiring in December 2000. Even in retirement, he stayed connected to his railway roots, enjoying weekly bowling nights and travelling to tournaments all over Atlantic Canada with the CN Pensioners Association. In his earlier years, Alan was an avid cross-country skier who spent countless hours exploring the trails of Sugarloaf Park with his family. A true outdoorsman, he had a passion for nature, keeping the birds in his backyard well fed, as well as tending to his beautiful flower gardens. In later years, he could be found walking on the Campbellton waterfront, having countless conversations with those he met along the way. Other interests included photography and a love of reading. He was a voracious reader of history books, mainly on WWII, as well as other works by Canadian authors. His generosity knew no bounds, and many benefited from it, whether it was a meal, a ride or the many wonderful gifts he gave his family over the years.
Alan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia; his son, Marc (Karine) of Pointe Claire, QC; his daughter, Andrea (Patrick) of Cartwright, MB; and his cherished grandchildren, Joren and Elianne, sister-in-law Karen (Mike) Olscamp of Sackville, NB, his nephews Andrew of shediac, NB and William of Ottawa, ON and brother-in law Bill (Bonnie) Vienneau of Halifax, NS. He was predeceased by his father Pierre Albert (PA) and his mother May, as well as his father-in-law Bill and mother-in-law Mabel Vienneau. He was also very pleased to have recently reconnected with his British cousin Edwin and his wife Carol.
A service and celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the chapel at Maher’s Funeral Home, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Diabetes Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choice.
