Cameron McRae

Cameron was born on July 19, 1942 in Dalhousie Junction, NB to the late Angus Leck McRae and the late Christina Meagher.

Cameron was the youngest of six children. He grew up in Maple Green and experienced many adventures with his siblings in the surrounding forest and waterways. He attended school at the two-room schoolhouse in Dalhousie Junction with other children in the area where they would walk each day to learn, even in the snowstorms. After graduating from Campbellton High School he went to Moncton to obtain his machinist trade. For most of his career he worked as a diesel mechanic for CN but did spend a short time with VIA Rail after the closure of the CN shop. After his railroad days, he worked at the Charlo airport until his retirement in 1997. He was an active member of the community with his involvement on the First Aid Team for CN; his membership with the local chapter of the Free Masons as well as a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School and served his church as a choir member and elder.

Cameron loved the outdoors. He enjoyed snowmobiling, snow shoeing, and working in the vegetable garden. The outdoors was not all that he loved. He married the love of his life on July 1, 1967. On that day the whole country celebrated their vows as Canadians celebrated their country’s centennial. His wife of 59 years was steadfast by his side, through the good times and the challenges. Without wavering faith, they navigated their lives together as one. He was incredibly proud of his family. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He spent many hours with them outside, sharing his knowledge and love of the outdoors.

Besides his wife Nancy, he is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Michael) Tremblett, his granddaughter Charlotte, his grandson Peter, and his sister Edith. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who he loved very much and always enjoyed their visits when they came home. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his children Stephen and Stephanie, his brothers David (Joyce), John, and his sisters Irma (Earl) Moores, and Agnes.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Regional Hospital and the Villa Renaissance for their wonderful care of Cameron during the last year, in particular Dr. Calegario and Dr. Gagnon.

A funeral service for Cameron will be held on Thursday July 30th at 3:00 pm at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Dalhousie with a committal following the service at the Campbellton Rural Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 2:00 pm until the time of the funeral.
