

Carmen Johnson was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, a second mother, and someone special to family and friends who knew her best, Carmen will be remembered as a very exceptional person. And to her grand children she was known as Gamou.
She was the daughter of Fabien Caissy and Lydia LeBlanc. Carmen was born in Saint Omer, Quebec on July 17, 1929. Spending her younger years in Quebec then moving to Atholville, NB.
Carmen was raised with Nine siblings. She had six brothers and three sisters. Willie, Fred, Phillip, John, Maurice, Charles, Fabie, Georgette and Bertha. All of her siblings predeceased Carmen except for Fabie and Georgette. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. Carmen's dad died when Carmen was a very young child of about 5 years old. Leaving Lydia to raise this large family on her own.
Carmen Louise Caissy married Gordon Harry Johnson in Tide Head, NB on May 15, 1951. Marriage was performed by the Reverend William H. Thomas Witnessed by Mrs. Florence Johnson and John E. Furlotte.
Empathic and loyal, Carmen was committed to making her new family happy. When first married Carmen and Gordon lived in Ottawa, They moved back to New Brunswick in the late fifties. First living in Campbellton then Gordon built Carmen a house in Morrisey Rock and there is where they raised their seven children. After the children got older they moved back to Campbellton with the children for a short time and then back to her beloved Tide Head where she lived her remaining years near her beloved Restigouche river.
Carmen worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Carmen was blessed with seven children, Four sons, Gordie, Randy, Bobby, Graham (deceased) and three daughters Diane, Peggy and Nancy. Another blessing for Carmen was the gift of fourteen grandchildren., Tanya Johnson Downs, Amanda Johnson Raymond, Ashley Johnson, William Sturgeon, Jeffrey Sturgeon, Amy Sturgeon, Jennifer Law Burns,, Becky Law, David Law, Matthew Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Anna Johnson Stewart, Steven Johnson, Alfie Vienneau.. Also, Great Grandchildren are Mallory Raymond, Alex Raymond, Marley Burns, Mariah Downs,Carter Stewart,Tidus Johnson, Cole Johnson, Everest Johnson, Lexi MacNaughton Johnson.
Carmen enjoyed what she did for a living. Her primary occupation was a mother and housewife. She was employed part-time in retail for many years. Carmen enjoyed her part-time work and everyone in the community knew her and loved her.
Carmen was widowed at the young age of 52. She dedicated the next 33 years to her children and grandchildren and eventually her great grandchildren. Carmen was always excited and so happy when she would hear there was a new baby coming.
Carmen enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were reading and spending time with her grandchildren, going to the beach and working in her flowers. She dearly loved her flower garden. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Nothing made Carmen smile more was to spend the afternoon on the beach behind Mary's house with her grandchildren. Christmas was by far her most favorite time of the year. She baked and cooked and filled the freezer with all sorts of yummy treats. She decorated the house from top to bottom and enjoyed the Christmas season to the fullest. Christmas eve dinner at her house was always one of the best gatherings for the family. All the cousins would say " it isn't Christmas until we all gather at Gamou's house".
Carmen was a woman who took pride in upholding her beliefs. So it is little wonder that she took an active role in her community, Carmen delivered meals on wheels in her little gray Chevette ( putt putt) to people in the community. Carmen had empathy for people who couldn't get out of their homes or prepare their meals. It made Carmen happy that she could help people.
Carmen enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. Favorite vacations included going to PEI with her children and grandchildren. Carmen also loved going with her husband to Ottawa in their early years of marriage . There were many train trips with the grandchildren in tow to visit her son Gordie in Kitchener, Ontario. Carmen would always jump at the chance to spend time with her daughter Nancy Vienneau and her family in Ontario.
Carmen was a lover of animals and cherished her pets, and often made molasses cookies for her buddy Charlie and would send them to Ontario. One of her favorites was Bear a English Springer. Bear was her fateful companion. They were best friends for Bear lived with Carmen for the last five year that she was in her home . The most beloved family pet was a black dog named Smokey. Smokey grew up with her seven children in Tide Head. There was always cats and dogs but Carmen's favorite cat was a beautiful white long haired blue eyed cat. Who would sit on Smokey's back as Smokey walked around the yard.
Carmen passed away peacefully surrounded by some of her precious grand children and children, on June 27, 2015 at Village Nursing Home 101 Dover St., Campbellton, NB. She is survived by her children Gordon of Dawsonville NB: Robert of Tide Head, NB: Randy (Joanne) of Tide Head, NB: Diane (Greg) of Campbellton, NB: Peggy (Murray) of Tide Head, NB: and Nancy (Alfie)of Puslinch, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Johnson and her son Graham Johnson. Services were held at Maher's Funeral Chapel, Campbellton on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Carmen was laid to rest in the Campbellton Rural Cemetery.
Carmen was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Carmen leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Carmen Louise Caissy Johnson and her beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by her family and friends

The funeral Service will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, Campbellton on Tuesday, June 30.
