It is with profound sadness, but also with immense gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Steven Duguay on June 19, 2026, with his beloved wife, Suzan Duguay, by his side.
Born in Middleton, NS, Don eventually made his way to Ontario, where he built a life filled with hard work, adventure, friendship, and family. Don never met a stranger. His door was always open, the coffee was usually on, and there was always room for one more at the table. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Don had a deep passion for the outdoors and was happiest when surrounded by nature. Whether he was hiking a trail, hunting in the woods with his boys, casting a line on a fishing trip, enjoying one of many outdoor adventures with friends, or training for one of the many marathons he proudly completed in his younger days, he embraced every opportunity to be active and outdoors. He cherished the countless memories he made with his sons and dear friends, including his longtime best friend Tony Cosh, as well as Bob Durette, Brian Walting, Lynn Mann, and his late friend Peter Clement. The friendships he built and the adventures they shared brought him immense joy and remained among his most treasured experiences.
Music was another one of Don’s greatest loves. Whenever he picked up his guitar, it didn’t take long before everyone was singing along. Family gatherings often turned into impromptu concerts, and while not everyone knew all the words, that never stopped Don from playing one more song.
Above all else, Don was a family man. He was a devoted husband to Suzan and a proud father to his four sons: Josh, Danial, Jonathan, and Bradley. Whether it was hockey, baseball, soccer, or any other activity his children were involved in, Don could always be found in the stands cheering them on.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: Josh Duguay (Nancy) and their children Gabrial, Jacob, and Gracie; Danial Duguay (Jennifer Stewart Duguay) and their children Elijhania and Jax; Jonathan Duguay (Leslie Duguay) and their children Caiden and Deacon; and Bradley Duguay (fiancée Kate Metallica) and daughters Alivia and Gianna, along with Kate’s children Anissa, Fred, and Will, all of whom held a special place in Don’s heart.
Don was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren who brought endless joy to his life. Nothing made him smile more than spending time with them, telling stories, sharing laughs, and occasionally spoiling them whenever he had the chance.
He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond, Terry, Roger, and Danny Duguay. He is survived by his sister Debra Duguay of Oshawa, Ontario, whose conversations could rival any marathon Don ever ran. Time spent with Debra was never short on stories, laughter, or lively discussions.
A lifelong and fiercely loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Don faithfully watched Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday. Family gatherings often featured spirited debates as some of his sons cheered for the Montreal Canadiens and others for the Boston Bruins. Don always maintained that everyone was entitled to their opinion—even when they were wrong. No matter the score, the Leafs remained his team through every triumph, heartbreak, and overtime loss.
Those who knew Don will remember his warm smile, his generous spirit, his love of family, his guitar, and his ability to bring people together. His legacy lives on through the countless memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
The family finds comfort in remembering family vacations, campfires, hunting trips, hockey games, evenings filled with music, and all the simple moments that became lifelong memories.
Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every moment we had with him.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
Matthew 25:23
