Just one day shy of her 101st birthday, Ellie left this world as she lived in it: gracefully, compassionately, and deeply loved by all who knew her.
Born on July 16, 1925, in Ottawa, Ontario, Ellie devoted her life to caring for her family and friends, always placing the needs of others before her own. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. Her home was a place of warmth, welcome, and unconditional love, bringing family and friends together and leaving them with memories they would treasure forever.
Ellie was the proud and adored matriarch of her family, known affectionately as “Grammie Ellie” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter. Whether offering a listening ear, preparing a comforting meal, sharing gentle wisdom, or simply extending kindness to those around her, she left an indelible mark on every life she touched.
Her final years were a beautiful reflection of the dignity and grace with which she lived. Through the extraordinary dedication of her caregivers, Ellie was able to fulfill her heartfelt wish of remaining in her cherished home until just 24 hours before her passing. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to Elaine and Norma, along with Paula, Cynthia, and the entire team from Lumière Private Care. These remarkable women became much more than caregivers; they became family, providing not only exceptional support but also companionship, laughter, comfort, and love that enriched Ellie’s final days.
Ellie leaves behind a magnificent legacy of love. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her children, Darryl (Claudia), Robyn (Paul), and Lorin (Irene); her grandchildren, Krystyna (Jeff), Kara (Sébastien), John (Tiff), Chris (Sara), Will (Mareike), Nigel (Jolène), and Caitlin; her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brea (Kaden), Owen, Arlo, Maia, Charlie, Calvin, Maddie, Dion, Harrison, and Vance; and her great-great-granddaughter, Octavia. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Randy, whose memory she carried with her always.
A celebration of Ellie’s extraordinary life and nearly 101 years of love, kindness, and devotion will be held on Tuesday, July 21 2026 at 2:00pm at saint John’s United Church in Dalhousie with visitations starting at 1:00pm at the church.
