Etta May Patterson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Etta May Patterson which occurred peacefully at the Campbellton Nursing Home on October 12, 2025, at the age of 101. Wife of the late Walter Patterson she was born in Escuminac, PQ on March 2, 1924, to the late William and Ellen (Forbes) Barnes.

She will be lovingly missed by her children, Sherry (Donald Meldrum) of Calgary, AB, Trudy (Stewart MacLean) of Tide Head, NB, Judy (Claude Carrier) of Fredericton, NB, her cherished grandson Matthew and great grandson Jaxson of Calgary, AB, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Etta was preceded by her brothers Robert Barnes and Raymond Barnes.

Etta was a member of the UCW and a previous member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. In her retirement she was a loyal volunteer at the Veterans’ Unit of the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

She had varied careers in her lifetime; one of which was making parachutes in Montreal, PQ during WWII. She retired from Litwin’s Department store.

Whether it was a motorcycle ride while in her seventies or a helicopter ride in her late eighties, Etta had a great spirit of adventure. She enjoyed travelling, experiencing new things and meeting people. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening and was always happy to spend time outdoors. She loved being surrounded by family and friends.

The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff of the Campbellton Nursing Home for their compassionate and loving care provided to Mom, and the kindness shown to us during Mom’s time spent in Palliative Care.

In keeping with Etta’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will be held in the Campbellton Rural Cemetery on Friday October 17th at 11am.

For those who wish, to make a donation in memory of Etta, a donation to the Restigouche County SPCA or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated by the family.
