Fay was born on November 21, 1955 in Listuguj, QC to the late Henry Mitchell and the late Corrine Basque.
Fay was married to the love of her life Elias for 45 blessed years and they had 1 son together, Elias Nicholas Baun. Fay worked as a teacher in Campbellton and Listuguj for 35 years and was awarded Teacher of Year during her career. She was a strong advocate for her language, Mi'kmaq, during her teaching career and in life with her family. Fay made sure Heatley and Paisley were only spoken to in Mi’kmaq and that she taught her daughter in law how to sing all her favorite nursery rhymes to her grandchildren in Mi'kmaq. Keeping her language alive was a priority. Fay was known for her beautiful magazine worthy garden, where many people took their celebration photos. She was an animal lover and donated to the SPCA just like her mother always did. She could often be seen within her community walking her dogs in the baby stroller beaming with her infectious smile. She will be greatly missed by her dogs Muffin and Baby. Fay was the sower, disciplinary, costume creator, and gift wrapper for her family and many community members. She loved to sow and make items for her family and community members. Fay knitted over 100 baby hats for the nursery at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. Her magic touch was loved by all. Fay was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a very kind spirit. Her family was and will always be what she is known to love the most, especially her Ma.
Besides her husband Elias, she is survived by her son Nicholas (Krista), her stepdaughter Candice (Scott), stepdaughter Trisha, and stepson Dale (Lyn). Fay is also survived by her beloved and adored, sister Sally (Peter), sister Belinda, and brother Kenny (Vicky). As well, Fay is survived by many grandchildren, godchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she loved with all her heart. Besides her parents, Fay was predeceased by her brother Henry (Jeanne-Mance), and her niece Leslie (Tim).
