

George Woods died peacefully on April 24th in Campbellton Regional Hospital, at 80 years of age. He is survived by his children, Carroll Woods (Pieter Leenhouts), Chris Woods, Kilby Foster (Jeff) and Kyle Woods (Correna); grandchildren, Christina Zeigler (Kevin), Craig Woods, Samantha Woods, Taylor and Connor Foster; great-grandchildren Andrew and Sean Zeigler. He is also survived by his brother, James Woods (Rita).
Predeceased by his wife, Stella (Dickinson) Woods, and grandson Patrick Leenhouts.
George served in the Royal Canadian Navy, between 1950 and 1955 on the aircraft carrier, the Magnificent. After the Navy, he studied meat cutting in Toledo Ohio, before starting work at Woods Lucky Dollar Grocery store in 1956, eventually becoming owner of the store in 1969. He also taught meat cutting at the Campbellton Community college.
George was a member of the Main Brace Club, the Royal Canadian Legion and CNAG (Canadian Naval Air Group) at Shearwater.
Viewing will be at Maher’s Funeral home Monday 7-9pm on 33 Lansdowne St.
Funeral will be on Tuesday, at 11am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Campbellton
Pallbearers are Glenn Woods, Pieter Leenhouts, Tim Woods, Ronnie Charlong, Rod Alexander, and Jeff Foster.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Autism Society of Canada and the Building Maintenance Fund at St. Thomas Aquinas parish in Campbellton.
George will be long remembered by his family and friends for his wit, his wisdom and his unconditional love.
