It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing away at the Village Nursing Home on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, with her family by her side, at the age of 84, Mrs. Joan (Thomas) Irvine of Flatlands, NB, wife of the late Lorne Irvine. Joan was born on December 6th, 1941, in Campbellton, NB to the late Vernon and Fern Thomas.
Joan worked as an RNA at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for 20 years, employed at Runnymede Lodge for 28 years, until her retirement in 2008 where she joined the Red Hat Ladies and started doing volunteer work for Meals on Wheels.
Early in her life, she enjoyed snowmobiling, camping and fishing with her son, husband and their friends. She played broomball, snowshoed in winter months, and softball in the summer. She led a very active lifestyle, her most enjoyment in life had been her interest in music to sing and dance to her old country favourites. She really enjoyed the game of hockey; she went to the old Memorial Gardens several times a week and never complained about being cold. Her favourite NHL team being the Montreal Canadiens. She had been an avid reader, loved nature and birdwatching, Cardinals were her favourite.
She loved to travel, shop, hosting and attending social gathers. Joan attended every fundraiser lunch or supper in all communities in the area. She forged many friendships along her journey of life. Her ability to be positive, supportive, kind and caring were her greatest attributes, always lending a helping hand at Catholic Church suppers, SPCA, and Meals on Wheels. Joan loved to have her family home to visit from Dartmouth, she cherished her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, she referred to them as the kids, Hannah and Blake.
Joan and Lorne lived a great life together they were married for 46 wonderful years, they enjoyed working, travelling and spending time with family and friends. Many great memories were created by them; both will always be remembered and never forgotten!
She is survived by her son Duane (Paige), grandchildren, Hannah and Blake. Her sisters; Ethel (Llewellyn) Boudreau, Jocelyn Thomas, Wendy Thomas, and Kimberley Thomas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her late husband Lorne, her sisters Judith (Blaine) Mann, Jacqueline Thomas, Tammy Thomas and Dale Thomas,
