Born in Campbellton, NB on March 10, 1949, he was the son of the late Margaret Ann Thomas and of the late Alexander MacDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Cooling); his sisters, Julie (Gyoba) & Ruby (Boudreau); his children Alison (Gallant), Ashley (Kelly), Billy (Jaime) & Jimmy; his grand children Drake (Gallant), Payton, Kayleigh, Deklan & Lochlan. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronnie.
John was a man of his word. He lived by this rule. He always said “If your word is no good, you have nothing”. His work ethic was unmatched. He accomplished more before morning coffee than most did in a day. He was a red seal heavy equipment mechanic in addition to being able to operate just about anything he worked on. He founded and ran a successful construction company, J.H. MacDonald & Sons, for over 40 years. He was also well known for his keen eye for a good deal.
He loved country & bluegrass music. He never, ever shied away from trying to play the songs he loved on his guitar, especially the “Wildwood Flower”. He was an avid snowmobiler who travelled far and wide with many friends over the years.
He was a strong supporter of the fire department and community center. Dad’s shop advice will be missed by all those he influenced. He will be greatly missed. You can rest easy now Dad, you more than earned it.
There will be no funeral service or visitation at the Funeral Home. His wishes were to be cremated and ashes spread at the family farm in Wyer’s Brook.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.
