

Joyce was the beloved wife of Joseph Ronald Essiembre, whom she married on July 18, 1970. She was a devoted and loving mother to Rachel (Richard) and Rene, and a proud grandmother to Ella and Gregor, who brought her immense joy.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, John Edward Young and Loretta Belanger, her brothers Gerald Young (May Bertin) and Larry Young (Claudette Thibault), nephews Dale Young (Sylvie Gagnon) and Lloyd Young (Louise Tremblay) and her brother-in-law Roger Essiembre (Rita Legacy) She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Jacqueline Jackson (Bill) and Patricia Winship (John); sisters-in-law Rita Essiembre and Cecille Essiembre; as well as her nieces and nephews: Shawn Henderson (Antonella), Darren Henderson, Andrew Winship, Ricky Young (Brigitte), Denis Young (Marie- Claude Boulay), Linda Young (Jean-Pierre Bournival), Nancy Young (Luc Lachance), Gilles Essiembre, Jean-Phillipe Goulet, Katy Winship, and Nicole White (Jason) and many cousins.
Joyce was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved her family deeply, passionately, and took great pride in every one of their accomplishments. Known as the heart and glue of the family, she was dependable, caring, and always ready to offer thoughtful advice and support.
She lived life to the fullest, guided by a strong sense of purpose and devotion to everything she did. Joyce had a strong work ethic and excelled throughout her working life. She treasured her friendships, keeping close connections over many years and always making time for those she cared about. Joyce found joy in life’s simple pleasures—walking with friends, reading, gardening, baking, and shopping. She especially loved the ocean and its natural healing presence, and her family will forever cherish the many summer memories spent together at the beach. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and brought warmth and light to those around her. Her grand dog, Risser, also held a special place in her heart. She shared a particularly close bond with her sisters, rooted in cherished memories from their early years. Joyce often spoke lovingly of her parents and brothers who passed before her, keeping their memory alive in her heart. Joyce will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
A special Mass in her honor will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel on July 3, 2026 at 2pm. Interment to follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery for family members.
