Peter G. Flores and Martha A. Flores, lifelong companions in both love and
life, passed peacefully within six days of one another—Pete on July 22, 2025,
and Martha on July 28, 2025—just as they had lived: inseparably.
Born only six months apart in 1932—Pete on January 18, and Martha on July
17—they grew up just houses away from each other on Copia Street in El
Paso, Texas, during the dusty, sun-drenched days of the 1930s and 40s. As
children, they shared sidewalks and stories; as teenagers, they shared glances
and dreams, their courtship sweetly supervised by watchful parents who may
have sensed what was to come.
On December 27, 1951, Pete and Martha married. It was the beginning of a
union that would span 73 remarkable years—marked not just by time, but by
deep devotion, adventure, and unshakable love.
Pete, a magnetic force of creativity and fire, channeled his vibrant spirit into
art and writing. He had a voice that filled rooms and ideas that leapt off pages
and canvases. Martha, his quiet compass, was steadfast and deeply rooted.
Her calm grace softened Pete’s sharp edges and gave their family its center.
While Pete served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 as an aerial
photographer, Martha stood tall and unwavering on the home front, raising
six children with grit, faith, and boundless love. Together, they taught their
children not only to be strong, kind, and loving—but to believe in something
greater, to honor the spirit that binds us all.
They are survived by five of their children—Michael, Kathryn, Melinda,
Peter III, and Mary Elizabeth—nine grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren,
all living testaments to the strength of their love and the
lessons they passed on.
In the final days after Pete's passing, Martha was heard speaking softly in
Spanish to her beloved in her sleep. When she passed just six days later, she
looked like an angel—peaceful, radiant, ready.
Their story, one of deep roots, laughter, sacrifice, and eternal devotion, ends
as all the great love stories do: not with parting, but with reunion. After a
lifetime of walking hand in hand, Pete and Martha are together again, forever.
“Y ahora están juntos con todo y para siempre.”
