He moved with his family at the age of ten to Coolidge, Arizona. Doc attended Boree's Corner School. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Doc was married to Christine (Moore) Fields, until her passing and to this union eight children were born. Later, he married Mildred Holloway until her passing as well. Doc worked on the family farm and on various construction sites, as well as a construction Pipe Layer.
Doc is survived by four daughter; Alice Banks, Helen Jackson (Freddie), Vera Fields, and Evelyn Black, all of Coolidge, AZ, two sons; Samuel D. Fields Jr. (Sherri) of Coolidge, AZ and Ethan A. Fields of Rockville, MD. In addition to his daughters and sons, he is survived by his two sisters and a brother.
