Bettie Catherine Pitts

Bettie was born in Salem, Oregon, on May 20, 1938, to Harold William and Mary Catherine (Stanton) Snook. She was raised in Salem, and attended Sacred Heart Academy and South Salem High School before attending college.

She worked as a Court Clerk in King County for 17 years, and after her retirement from that career, worked as a receptionist at her brother-in-law, Fred Ostrow’s dental office, Redland Dental Clinic, in Redland, Or.

Bettie was a kind and generous woman. She loved the outdoors, camping, painting with watercolor, solving crossword puzzles, playing (and winning) Scrabble games at every family gathering, reading all types of books, and bird watching. Her favorite place to be was on the beach; clam digging and oyster shucking on the beach were particularly favorite activities. Many fond memories were made during family trips to Ocean Shores, Long Beach, and Deception Pass.

Bettie is preceded in death by her parents; and son, Jeff Mikkelsen.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Mary (Edward Lawrence)Reed, and Sandra (Christopher)Childers; son, Eric (Monica)Mikkelsen; grandchildren, Corina Woolley, Karissa Goddard, MacKenzie Durpos, and Tabitha Durpos; great-grandchildren, Austin Reed, Ian Woolley, Dylan Woolley, Domanick Goddard, Jr., Malykai Goddard, Aiyana Goddard; great- great- granddaughter, Laelah Reed; siblings, David (Laurie) Snook, Kathie (Fred) Ostrow, Barbara (Woody) Hays; and many other extended and adopted family members who will miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S Gold Street, Centralia, with a reception to follow in the Chapel’s Hospitality Room.

In lieu of flowers, Bettie’s family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to a charity of your choice.
