

Ethel Irene Eiland was born near Sterling Colo., on Oct. 13, 1921, to Herman C. Hansen and Inez Irene Davis Hansen. She was second of seven children. Ethel graduated from Logan County High School in Sterling, Colo., in 1939. She married Clayton Lee Eiland Jr. in 1947. He passed away in 1990 from heart failure.
When Ethel married she acquired four girls and two boys. She and Clayton lived in Whittier, Calif., for twenty three years. They were active in the Calvary Baptist Church and Whittier Hills Baptist Churches. Clayton worked for the Pullman Company and she worked for the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles for twelve years. When they both retired they moved to Diamond Point,
Wash. They built their retirement home along the San Juan DeFuchs. They lived there until her husband passed away. Ethel lived in Sequim prior to moving to Centralia to be near her step-children. Ethel belonged to the Rhododendron Grange for twenty nine years, and Oakville Grange. She was active in the Ford's Prairie Garden Club and an active member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Centralia.
She enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful flowers, as well as knitting and crocheting.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clayton; four brothers, one sister, and step-daughters, Mona Widell and Mary Frison who passed away from cancer.
She is survived by her sister, Edna Lindenberg; a cousin, Eunice Hansen of Akron, Colo., five step-children, Shirley Yates of Winnemucca, Nev., Betty Gilley of West Jordon, Utah, Clay Eiland of Centralia, Wash., and John Eiland of Centralia, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ethel's memory to Mt. View Baptist Church.
