Born to William and Francis Mulkins in 1943, Lloyd was a self-proclaimed maladjusted middle child with older brother “Jim” Mulkins and younger sister Katie Mulkins-Jackson. He grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended Bethel Temple in downtown Seattle with his family.
Lloyd graduated from Garfield high school in 1961. He met Gloria while attending Bethel Temple they were married in 1965. While still nearly newlyweds, Lloyd joined the U.S. Army in 1969. Lloyd and Gloria were stationed in Germany where they made wonderful memories and forever friendships. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
Back in the U.S., Lloyd and Gloria had three children. Jeremy (stillborn), Reva and Marlena. The family of four moved to Ellensburg, Washington where Lloyd had his first Pastor position. While there he also attended Central Washington University - and earned a Bachelor degree in History in 1978.
Lloyd had a long career as a man of God. He was youth pastor at Bethel Temple in Seattle from 1979-1981. Wanting to get out in the country, Lloyd and the family moved to Onalaska, Washington where he was Pastor at the Onalaska First Church of God from 1981-1989. Then in 1989, Lloyd was called to Colorado Springs to be Pastor at the Community Church of God. Again in 1994-1998, Lloyd was called to Pastor the Church of God in Delta & Hotchkiss, Colorado. Lloyd returned to Pastor at Onalaska First Church of God from 1998 until his retirement in 2019. He was much loved as a Pastor, husband, father, Papa, and brother.
Lloyd and Gloria were married for 38 years before she passed away from stomach cancer, surrounded by family, in 2003. Lloyd later married Kathleen Hoffmaster Mulkins in 2004, who passed away in 2019 after almost 15 years of marriage.
Lloyd gave much of his time to his community. He was a substitute bus driver in Onalaska and coached softball. He played Santa for the American Heart Association. Lloyd was a Church camp counselor - and camp director – with his wife Gloria.
Those who knew Lloyd knew he loved to tell jokes. Bad puns, knock-knock jokes, Biblical jokes, it didn’t matter if you were friend, family - Lloyd didn't know a stranger. He especially reveled in telling his restaurant jokes to the servers. Loving to make people laugh, he received an extra delight hearing the laughter of children.
Lloyd had eclectic interests including trains, bible study, making quilts, using puppets for Children’s Moment at church, and watching Perry Mason TV and John Wayne movies. Watching football was an experience he shared with his eldest daughter Reva. He loved talking football and he liked his coffee black.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his father William Mulkins, his mother Francis Mulkins, his son Jeremy Mulkins, his brother James Mulkins, his wife Gloria Mulkins, and his second wife Kathleen Mulkins.
Lloyd is survived by his daughters Reva Rice and Marlena Mulkins, his sister Katie Jackson, his grandchildren Riley and Regan Rice, nephews Bill Mulkins and Tim Jackson, and nieces Cathy Mulkins and Susan Jackson.
The family would like to thank all of those who have shared in the joys and laughter, sadness and tears, and the heartaches and triumphs that knowing and loving Lloyd Mulkins has brought.
