Dot was born on August 24, 1926 in Comer, Georgia, to the late Thomas and Martha Kidd. In her adulthood, she married the love of her life, Arnold Clay Starnes and they shared almost 60 years of marriage together. Dot and Arnold resided in California and Florida in the early years of their marriage while Arnold was in the Navy, and they later moved to Charlotte to raise their daughters, Vicki and Kathy. Dot worked for Barclays American Corporation for 18 years and once she retired, they spent time traveling across the United States. Then they relocated to the Holden Beach area.
Dot was best known for her beautiful smile and her famous Black Walnut Cake. She was also very skilled at card games and was notorious for her finesse in Pinochle. Dot enjoyed spending time in her garden or out fishing. She had a special admiration for Chihuahuas, and loved to spoil her little dogs. Dot welcomed any opportunity to spend time with her friends and family. She was truly a light to those she loved and she will be greatly missed.
Dot was predeceased by her husband, Arnold and her son-in-law, Steve Carter. She is survived by daughters, Vicki S. Baker (Conrad "Butch"), and Kathy S. Carter; grandson, Andrew B. Baker (Kacey); and two great grandchildren, Ethan C. Baker (Sarah) and Ellis W. Baker.
