Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, William Kirkpatrick Scott; her brother, William Sunday Alexander and his wife, Betty; and her sister, Mary Alexander McCreary and her husband, Arnold E. “Mr. Mac”.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Scott Zink and her husband, Dennis Zink, of Charlotte; her grandson, Christopher Brent Zink and his wife, Dr. Ashley Hickman Zink, of Dallas, TX; three nephews and one niece.
After graduating from Oakhurst School, Edna served her country during WWII by working in the shipyard in Jacksonville, FL. Returning to Charlotte, she was employed with Hudson Hosiery, where Edna met her husband. She also worked for Delmar Studios and retired from Hanford’s Wholesale Florist.
Edna lived her faith. She spent her life selflessly serving and caring for others. Her gift of flower arranging and making Chrismons was shared with her church and several others. She loved nature, being outdoors and going to yard sales on Saturdays with her best friend, Nancy. Her hands were always busy, improving her surroundings.
Edna loved her church, especially the close friendships she developed in her Epworth SS Class and at the weekly prayer breakfasts.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the memorial and celebration of her life immediately following at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Pastor Mike Goode (Hickory Grove UMC), Rev. Ron Tippens (her former minister at Albemarle Rd. Presbyterian Church,) and Rev. Bill Saylor (close friend) will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum off Lawyers Road.
The family is so grateful to the staff at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, where she was treated with the compassionate care and dignity that she so deserved.
Memorials may be given to the HGUMC Building Fund, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.
