Ellen Chapman Taylor

Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Joe Kirkpatrick will officiate.

Born December 15, 1938 in Burke County, NC, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late Roy Lee Chapman and Hazel Thomas Chapman. She was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and attended King’s Business College and Central Piedmont Community College. Mrs. Taylor retired as an accountant with Austin Tarp and Canvas to stay at home and keep her grandchildren. She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Taylor enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, antiquing, reading and caring for her animals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Chapman.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Joe Ross Taylor; three children, Mary Washam and husband, Terry, of Cornelius, Buddy Taylor of Richburg, SC, and Norma Gibson and husband, Rick, of Harrisburg; three sisters, Betty Auten and husband, Jerry, of Indian Trail, Mildred Williams and husband, Rodney, of Charlotte, Hilda Elliott and husband, Bob, of Polkville; six grandchildren, Joseph, Scott, Clay, Jessica, Michelle, and Dallas; and two great-grandsons, Christian and Ashton.
