Gerald Lee Taylor

On May 15, 2020, Gerald Lee Taylor, of Stallings, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 87. Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine Tiller Taylor, his daughter, Dana Taylor (Barry) Dyson, two grandsons, John Taylor Dyson and Ryan Gerald Dyson, his sister, Edith Taylor Lewis, his nephews, Eric Lewis, Van Tiller, and Jesse Ballew, as well as a very special and supportive cousin, Ronald Beaver, and extended family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Gerald worked the majority of his life in the trucking industry, driving for Tennessee Carolina Transportation and Pacific Intermountain Express for 23 years. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 71, throughout his career, and continued to participate as a member of the Local 71 Retirees Club, serving as a trustee and, at the time of his death, as Club chaplain. Gerald was a member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Trail for over 20 years and enjoyed the fellowship of his Sunday School classmates both at church and socially. Gerald loved gospel music throughout his life, serving as President of the Mecklenburg Singing Convention, which performed at churches throughout the Charlotte area, as well as in a gospel music trio, with his sister as accompanying pianist. Gerald was also an avid gardener who enjoyed working outside and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, N.C. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Whitson and Reverend Danny Myers, of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations in Gerald’s memory be made to Novant Health Hospice, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.
