Our precious mother, Gloria Daughtry Perkins passed peacefully with her family by her side on August 3, 2024. She was a wonderful God-fearing mother who was always there when we needed her the most offering support wisdom and love and abundance. She was an example to so many and a shining light to all who knew her. She will be missed more than any words could express, but she will be forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Mom is preceded in death by her loving parents, James Henry and Lillian Daughtry; and her loving daughter, Margaret (Marcie) Celeste Sugg-Horton.
Mom leaves behind her loving sister, Sandra (Sandy) Jean Daughtry Sims; her beloved children, Edgar Harbert Sugg, III (Keri) and Amy Cheryl Rutledge (Eric). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, James Brandon Sugg, Joshua Curtis Wood, Robert Daniel Wood, Christopher Ryan Sugg, Cory Matthew Sugg, Spencer Dillon Sugg, Abigail Renee Rutledge, and Austin John Rutledge; her great grandchildren, Allana Mae Sugg, Rockie Avalynn Sugg, Lillian Juliette Sugg, Robert Patcharapon Wood, and Isaac Jason Wood; and her sweet niece, Missy Mulwee Houser and great nephews.
Mom was a Charlotte Native. She was born at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. She attended Alexander Graham Middle School and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1957. Mom then attended UNC-Greensboro. Married our precious father, Edgar H. Sugg, Jr. and moved away to Memphis, TN to start a family. Mom worked as a realtor and 21 years later moved back to Charlotte to be near her precious mother. Mom’s interests were poetry, playing piano, art, and staying in God’s word.
Mom laughed, cried, encouraged, and prayed for her family and friends. She truly loved the way Christ loved us and for some she was the closest example of Christ’s unconditional love for us.
I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Mom’s caregivers from Bayada especially Essie, Henrietta and Dominique. They were the most kind and loving caregivers. Mom adored and loved them. I would like to thank Hospice especially Claire for all the time and attention for making sure Mom was comfortable and all her needs were met.
