Mr. McComb was born on November 18, 1931, in Mecklenburg County to the late Harvey Ellis McComb Jr. and the late Winona Ruth Shirey McComb. He was also preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Maida Long McComb; his son, Harvey Ellis McComb IV; his daughter-in-law, Christi Diane Belk McComb; and his siblings, Winona Ruth McComb Clisson and William Shirey McComb.
Mr. McComb graduated from Oakhurst High School in 1949 and continued working full-time as a dairyman until 1957 when he began working for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Charlotte, NC. He retired in 1993 after 36 years of employment. During his years of employment and after retirement, he continued to work on the farm, raising beef cattle, keeping bees, gardening and sharing his honey and vegetables with family and friends. He was also known for his love of antique pendulum and grandfather clocks. Beyond hobbies he spent priceless time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, helping and teaching them things only a “Pa” or “Paw Paw” can. More recently, he meticulously cared for his wife as she became more affected by Parkinson's disease until she passed in 2021.
Survivors include his daughters, Diane McComb Clontz and Gail McComb Suddreth (Tom); his son, Eric Wayne McComb; and 11 grandchildren: William David McComb (Dana), Valerie Clontz Singalevitch (Jason), Matthew Wright Clontz (Valeria), Wesley Ellis Clontz (Kayla), Andrea Suddreth Arbenz (John), Edwin Thomas Suddreth (Cheri), Elizabeth Marie Suddreth, Hannah McComb McGee (Ryan), Heather McComb Snyder (Matt), Harrison Chase McComb (Ashley), and Carey Ellis McComb (Sara). He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and one recently born great-great granddaughter, as well as his brother-in-law, Joseph A. Clisson, sister-in-law, Linda Macken McComb and many nieces and nephews.
He was a generous, hard-working family man who loved his church, family, and friends. He was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers that assisted Ellis allowing him to remain at home.
