

He was born on April.14, 1930, in Stanly County, NC, to John Webster and Lula (Hartley) Hathcock.
He was a Korean War veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army from Oct. 27, 1952, until his honorable discharge on Sept. 11, 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Hathcott was an overseas buyer in the Charlotte office for UNOCOL (now Chevron) for twenty-nine years.
He lived in Charlotte before moving to Midland in 1988.
He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland, NC, and served as a Trustee and member of the finance committee.
James was a beloved husband and father.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday, Mar. 15, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the McEwen-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill, NC. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2011, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 12700 Idlebrook Rd., Midland, NC. The Reverend Mark Clontz will officiate.
He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Elsie, Midland, NC; his son, Jeff Hathcock and wife, Marsha, Matthews, NC; three step-children, Lynn Young and husband Paul, Denver, NC; Bud Millwood and wife, Liisa, Stockholm, Sweden; and Brian Millwood and wife Joanna, Unionville, NC; eleven grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn Kiker and husband, Johnny, Weddington, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Minnie Taylor Hathcock, four brothers, and five sisters.
